Glass Art Exhibition Opens

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Valdez, Alaska, October 7, 2020: The Valdez Museum & Historical Archive is pleased to announce the installation of a new art exhibition, Color + Heat = Magic, Glass by Sharry Miller. The exhibit offers viewers a unique vision of Alaska presented through a collection of fused glass work depicting nature in all her guises. Well-known Valdez artist Sharry Miller presents an array of colorful glass art that runs the gamut from birds, corals and sea creatures to abstract designs on wall hangings.

Miller has been working with heat and glass since the late 1990’s when she first took up lampworking, a type of glasswork using a torch or lamp to melt glass beads in design creation. But for the past 15 years she’s been making fused glass pictures and sculptures, experimenting with different techniques and the use of bright colors.

Visitors to the Museum can learn about the process of creating with fused glass, and have a chance to explore this art form not only through the artwork on display, but also the design process and technical production information. Miller accompanies her artwork with design sketches, photos and her own description of working in this medium.
