Valdez based artist Erica Shirk presents a series of hand pulled woodblock prints produced through a reduction process, and a series of mono prints, single impressions of an image made from a re-printable block.
Shirk has a BS in Chemistry, a BS in Studio Art, and education certificates from the University of Denver. Both a visual artist and a scientist, she pairs the creative process with scientific investigation of natural phenomena. In this exhibit Shirk has created a series of images that explore Alaska’s mountains and glaciers, both as geological features and as a millennia-long geological process.
Erica Shirk’s current work reflects her interest in both the concept of time and its passage.
Exhibit has been extended and will now be on display at the Valdez Museum through Sunday, March 10.
