2018 Winter Wonderland Roadhouse Dinner A Rousing Success!
Valdez, Alaska, October 10, 2018 – The Valdez Civic Center was transformed into a wintry scene as sparkling snowflakes hung down from the ceiling against a backdrop of craggy mountain peaks on the surrounding ballroom walls to create a “Winter Wonderland.” That was the theme of this year’s 17th annual Roadhouse Dinner and many guests dressed accordingly wearing colorful hats, gloves, earmuffs and cozy sweaters.
Karen Davey Stewart was honored, posthumously, for her role in pioneering the winter sports industry in Valdez through the World Extreme Skiing Championships (WESC). A commemorative slide show plus personally shared memories of Karen were the highlights of an evening which included both silent and live auctions as well as a gourmet meal prepared by Chef Matt Kress of Serendipity Supper Club. That was topped off by an array of artfully presented confections ready to be plucked by the highest bidder in the notorious Dessert Dash.
But the true spirit of volunteerism was key in making this year’s Roadhouse Dinner a success. The many months of planning began with meetings of the Museum Board’s Roadhouse Committee, headed by Chairperson Sara Irwin-Goudreau. She logged in countless volunteer hours organizing the program, taking care of all the last minute details and recruiting an army of volunteers to help the event run smoothly. THANK YOU SARA and all the wonderful folks who donated their time to make the 2018 Winter Wonderland Roadhouse Dinner both enjoyable and financially beneficial. It is our largest annual fundraiser and this year’s event raised more than $26,000 for the Museum’s mission driven educational programs, exhibits and presentations.
