Volunteer

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at The Valdez Museum and Historical Archive. Volunteers are an essential part of our Museum. They represent the Museum to our visitors and keep things running smoothly. Volunteering at our Museum gives you the opportunity to learn more about Valdez & the Copper River Basin’s  history, to meet and befriend people with similar interests and to serve a premier educational institution.

How to Become a Volunteer

Fill out and return an application. Applications are available either to download here or at the front desk of the Museum. Your application can be either submitted digitally or be returned to the Volunteer Coordinator or Executive Director. The Coordinator will set up an interview to discuss the volunteer opportunities in person, tour your areas of interest, and determine if your interests match an available position. The Coordinator or Executive Director will then make a placement based on available positions as well as your interests and skills. You will then be introduces to your volunteer supervisor or scheduled for a special upcoming event.

Job Orientation & Training

  • Training varies depending on the volunteer job.
  • One-time special events training will be on-the-job on the day of the event, with instructions and descriptions mailed out to volunteer prior to event whenever possible.
  • Ongoing positions will have thorough on-the-job training before volunteers are asked to do anything on their own.
