Student Art Show 2018 Thank You

Student Art Show 2018 Thank You

“Spring into Art:  2018 Annual Student Art Show” opened March 23, 2018 with an opening celebration that evening.  The show will run until May 3, 2018.  Over the last 18 years the Annual Student Art Show has been a great opportunity for the Museum to partner with the Valdez City Schools to help supplement their arts education experience. This year we continued to work closely with home schools and Valdez City Schools. 280 Pre-K through High School artists submitted 279 pieces total.  Once again we are displaying the show at multiple sites.  In addition to the Valdez Museum’s temporary gallery space (Grade 6 – High School), we will be at an offsite location, the Valdez Visitor Center (Pre-K – grade 5.)

The success of the show each year is attributed to the wonderful partnership with Alyeska Pipeline Service Co, the Alaska State Council on the Arts, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Copper Valley Electric Association Community Foundation, Laurine Regan and her staff at the Valdez Visitor Center, and volunteers, Rich Dunkin, Glen Sodergren, and 5th grade student volunteers Taja and Elizabella. It is the generosity of our collaborators, donors and volunteers that keeps this program alive.  Last but certainly not least, thank you to the teachers, especially art teachers Susan Keeney and Tyler Calvert-Thompson.  We could not put this show on without you.

This program is a wonderful community collaborative effort.  Come check it out.  we are sure you will be amazed at how talented Valdez students are.
