Imagine living deep in the Alaska wilderness where survival depends on your ability to hunt, fish and gather. It was a land of dense forests, rivers teeming with fish and acres of berry bushes, all set against a backdrop of majestic snow covered mountains. The subsistence lifestyle of their Athabascan ancestors was the only way of life the Shaginoff family knew. But when the Colonists moved into Alaska’s  Matanuska Valley as part of the country’s New Deal, their world was about to change forever.
