Description

Rooted in the legends of Alaska’s Athabaskan Indians, this novel of two rebels teaches that the search for individualism often comes at a high price but can be the foundation for finding true wisdom. When Bird Girl, an independent young hunter, is ordered to marry and conform to her tribe’s traditional role for women, she decides instead to leave the tribe. The other rebel, a young man named Daagoo, is a restless dreamer who leaves Alaska to journey south in search of the legendary Land of the Sun. Following their hearts, Bird Girl and Daagoo wander far from their culture’s deeply held traditions and eventually must find a way to come home again.
