Museum Exhibits Supported by CVEA Community Foundation

Valdez, Alaska, December 21, 2018 – The Valdez Museum and Historical Archive (VMHA) is among sixteen-local non-profit organizations to receive a 2018 grant from the Copper Valley Electric Association Community Foundation (CVEACF). The Foundation was created so that CVEA can do more for the communities it serves. They fund scholarships, events and local non-profits. In 2018, the Foundation had $13,800 available for contributions.

The Valdez Museum is the only institution within its geographic region dedicated to the presentation of arts and cultural exhibitions. The $1,000 grant from CVEACF will go toward the Museum’s 2019 temporary exhibits which are rotated four times throughout the year. They not only fill a need for arts and cultural education in the community, but they provide a venue for local artists to show their work as well as foster an appreciation of the arts to people of all ages.

CVEACF representative, Sharon Scheidt, commented:

The Foundation is thrilled to support the Valdez Museum’s temporary exhibits because of the art and cultural education they bring to the community. They are a wonderful historical gem and we are grateful for what they do.”

In 2018 the Foundation Board received and reviewed 16 applications, totaling $45,064 for very worthwhile community programs. These applications were extensively reviewed and scored by a group of volunteers, taking special care to ensure that funds were widely distributed and appropriately balanced between the CVEA Districts. Patricia Relay, Executive Director of the Valdez Museum and Historical Archive, extends a heartfelt thanks to the Foundation for all they do, and for their generosity that helps the Museum continue programs which support our mission to preserve, present and interpret the heritage and culture of Valdez, the Copper River Basin and Prince William Sound, Alaska.
