Museum Exhibits Supported by CVEA Community Foundation

Valdez, Alaska, January 3, 2020 – The Valdez Museum is pleased to be the recipient of a $1,500 grant from Copper Valley Electric Association Community Foundation that will go toward the presentation of art exhibits in Egan Commons which are rotated four times throughout the year. They not only fill a need for arts and cultural education in the community, but they provide a venue for local artists to show their work as well as foster an appreciation of the arts to people of all ages.

Valdez Museum Executive Director Patricia Relay comments,

“In this time of economic uncertainty Foundation grants are very important to Alaska’s cultural organizations, especially in remote communities such as Valdez. With the Foundation’s help we have an excellent line up of exhibits planned for the 2020 season, all of which highlight Alaskan artists.”

The New Year starts with Spirited: Birds and Flowers of the Copper River Delta, opening on January 17, 2020. Homer artist Sharlene Cline presents a playful collection of collages and paintings inspired by Asian brushwork that depict birds and flowers of the Copper River Delta. In March the Museum pairs with the Valdez Consortium Library to present Spring Into Art 2020, the 18th annual Student Art Show. Raptora Borealis: Alaska’s Bird of Prey opens in May and features woodcut prints by Alaskan artist Kevin Crowley that explore both the folklore and scientific lore about Alaska’s birds of prey. In September, rounding out the 2020 temporary exhibits season, is Eye of the Beholder: Alaska in Glass by Sharry Miller of Valdez. Her fused glass artwork offers museum visitors a unique vision of Alaska.

Patricia Relay, Executive Director of the Valdez Museum and Historical Archive, extends a heartfelt thanks to the CVEA Community Foundation for all they do and for their generosity that helps the Museum continue programs which support our mission to preserve, present and interpret the heritage and culture of Valdez, the Copper River Basin and Prince William Sound, Alaska.
