Grants Sustain Museum Operations

Grants Sustain Museum Operations

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Valdez, Alaska, July 3, 2020 – The Valdez Museum & Historical Archive reopened to the public on July 1, 2020 after a nearly four month closure over health concerns related to the COVID-19 global pandemic. During that time museum staff continued working and adapting to develop online program offerings and stay connected with museum goers, despite the fact that the Museum’s doors remained closed during that time period.

In addition to creating new content, museum staff rolled up their sleeves and put on their “money raising hats” to seek funding that would help offset losses in revenue from the extended closure. Their efforts paid off, and now the Board and Staff of the Valdez Museum want to offer a big Thank You to a number of city, state and federal agencies for their generous support. Grant awards include:

  • Alaska State Council on the Arts – $2,000
  • State Museum Grant in Aid (GIA) Program – $5,758
  • State Library CARES – $1,742
  • City of Valdez Economic Recovery – $1,750
  • AK Humanities Forum – $6,250

These monies go a long way toward sustaining our daily operations and making up for the large revenue shortfall from the extended closure. The Valdez Museum is now operating under new guidelines that ensure the health and safety of all visitors, volunteers and staff.

Museum hours are:

Noon to 4 pm, Tuesday – Sunday. Closed Monday.

We hope to see you soon!
