Lewis, J. C.
First class passenger on steamer Valencia, departing Seattle 4/7/98, Seattle P-I 4/8/98 & Seattle Times, 4/8/98; L. Lashway notes: “It’s possible that J.C. Lewis is the J.C.C. Lewis of Salem, Oregon, who wrote the Post-Intelligencer a letter describing the Copper River area and giving advice to prospectors (Seattle Post-Intelligencer, 11/23/97). He claimed to have explore the upper Copper River area [near Susitna River] 29 years earlier with one other white man and an Indian guide. He was planning to lead a party there in spring of ‘98.”
