Was left by Rafferty with 4 days rations to go back over glacier while Rafferty and Goodman went down Copper River in a boat. He lost his way. Was 5 days without anything to eat, was picked up and cared for by Indians.His clothes were torn. He lost his hat and cooking utensils, blanket and all. Was partly out of his head for the want of food. Reports he brought own from the copper River not very encouraging as far as prospecting goes. . . MB-D, 7/16/98;
