Crary, Diary. 6/28/1898, p. 8; established a private mail route from Orca, “steamship companies bring the mail to him, charging 2 cents a letter extra; he delivers it along the trail at these rates this side of summit: 50 cents a month, return mail free; other side of summit, $1.00 in and $1.00 out a month.
