CALL TO ACTION!!

Valdez, Alaska, January 10, 2019 – The Valdez Museum and Historical Archive (VMHA) staff and Board of Directors have long dreamed of a new building that can house all our collections and exhibits under one roof. That dream could move a step closer to reality at the next Valdez City Council meeting when council members discuss a proposed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the VMHA and the City to jointly plan for and build a new museum facility.

The multi-year Capital Construction Project process began in 2015 when a Building Committee was formed and held regular meetings. That led to the formulation of a Master Interpretive Plan which was finalized in October of 2016. Since then the project has largely been stalled, but with the new MOU now a discussion item on the next City Council meeting agenda, the chance to move forward is possible.

As a supporter of the Valdez Museum, we are asking you to attend the City Council meeting on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 to help our elected officials understand the importance of a new museum building. That facility will unite our temporary and permanent exhibits, detailed scale model of Old Town and wealth of materials on earthquake and firefighting history. It will also provide ample storage space and a controlled environment to preserve our extensive archival collection.

The meeting starts at 7:00 pm in the Valdez City Council Chambers.

If you are not able to attend in person please contact Sheri Pierce, City Clerk at 907-834-3408 or spierce@valdezak.gov and leave a comment for the record.

Please share this information with your friends, family and colleagues.
Thank you so much for your time and consideration. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me by phone, email, or just swing by the Museum.
