Building Committee Meets With Architect Teams

Valdez, Alaska, December 19, 2020: The Museum Building Committee and representatives from Wolf Architecture and Hennebery Eddy Architects met on December 11, 2020 to work on flushing out possible design scenarios for the new museum facility. stated Project Goals are:

  • Gathering
  • Expansion
  • Consolidation

The architects’ focus is on the project location—site of the current Main Museum on Egan Drive, which they termed the “center of gravity” with its central downtown location. They envision the area surrounding the Museum as hub of pedestrian active as downtown Valdez develops.

The architects presented committee members with drawings for a number of new building scenarios, such as East and West facing conceptual designs as well as landscaping that pulls in elements of Old Town Valdez. Other discussion items were bus drop-off points, a possible connector to the Valdez Library, where to put a loading dock, different designs for how to organize the galleries, and how the new building can best reflect the natural beauty of Valdez.

The meeting was positive, productive and a big step forward for the New Museum Project.
