The records show considerable variation in the spelling of last names. If you cannot
find the name as you now spell it, try variations. The most common variation is a change
in vowels: Ailsworth, Aylsworth; Simensted, Simonstead, Simenstod; McNeer, McNair, McNear;
Herd, Hurd; Levell, Leavelle, Leavell. Less common are changes in similar sounding consonants:
Drace, Drase; Leveross, Leverose, Leveroos; Ohlson, Ohlsson, Olson, Olsen. In searching, be
creative. The field "additional names" gives all the variations.
