Global Rivers Art Exhchage

The Global Rivers Art Exchange is an art project dedicated to educating audiences about worldwide concers over water quality. The exchange brings together teen and adult artists expressing their feelings about their local rivers. The project is the brainchild of Bernice Davidson, art professor at Martin Methodist College in Pulaski, Tennessee. This exhibit features artists from Ghana, Russia, Mexico and the U.S.

These exhibits reflect the history of Valdez, the Copper River Valley, and Prince William Sound from the earliest days, when Native Alaskans first occupied the area, to the present day. Photograph Archives - The Gold Rush
Photographs from the Valdez Museums archives that represent the community's social and economic development from 1898 to present.

Images from Valdez at the turn of the century.
Photograph Archives Selections - Alaska's First Highway
The U.S. Army began construction of Alaska's first Highway in 1899. It was later upgraded to a wagon road. Model Ts were the first cars to venture out over Thompson Pass. Today's Richardson Highway closely follows the original route.
Photograph Archives Selections - 1964 Earthquake Images
On March 27, 1964, Valdez was hit by the largest earthquake to be recorded in North America. The Good Friday Earthquake resulted in the deaths of 32 Valdezans when the city wharf crumbled into the turbulent waters.
Pipeline Construction Collection
From 1969-1977 the world's largest private construction project was undertaken in Alaska. 800 miles of above- and below- ground pipe was laid from Prudhoe Bay to Valdez. Alyeska Pipeline Service Company, the managing firm, persistently recorded the project through photographs.
